Climate Change May Be Largest Emerging Issue

All indications from the NAHB Spring Board Meeting in Washington, D.C. are that Climate Change is the largest emerging issue from the Obama Administration and that the recent legislation dealing with emissions from cars and trucks is just the beginning of much more legislation to come.

NAHB Staff have compiled a lot of information and are gearing up for getting the word out to membership. Roger Martella (an attorney contracted by NAHB and the previous head environmental attorney to the Bush White House) has a great summary of information on his website http://www.sidley.com/climatechange/

Shorebird and Horseshoe Crab Festival

On Saturday, Joe Gordon and Mick McLaughlin hosted the JCM Environmental booth at the Shorebird and Horseshoe Crab Festival in Milton.

Over 2,000 people came from all over Delaware and the surrounding States. The JCM Environmental "critters" were a big hit (as usual). The people that visited the booth were educated by Joe and Mick about the native Herptiles (Snakes, Turtles, Frogs and Salamanders).

To have the JCM Critters show up at your event, contact JCM Environmental at www.jcmenv.com or (302) 737-9335 x501.

Native Plant Sale

This past Saturday we had a successful day participating at the Center for Inland Bays Native Plant Sale at their James Farm in Ocean View.

Amy, Jim, Jacki and Howard worked the booth and sold out all 240 of our native plants. While the weather was slightly overcast, it was pleasant and everyone that attended seemed to have a good time, at our booth and also the various attractions hosted during the day by the Center for Inland Bays.

Not only did we sell out of the native plants, but our rain barrel giveaway drew over 150 entries. We also had a number of interested folks on the rain garden poster and handouts.

The rain song white board (think of a song title containing the word "rain") was a hit as people even came back with song ideas (although a few sounded made up).
Many thanks to the Center for Inland Bays and especially Sally Boswell for organizing a great event and for having us as their guests.

Green Builders Promote at HBA/DE Builder/Realtor Expo 5/14/09

Several of green building homebuilder clients - Benchmark Builders, Bestfield Homes, and J.S. Hovnanian - plus some other planned green builders - took the opportunity today to promote their products and green built homes to Realtors at the Home Builder's Builder-Realtor Expo today at Nobles Pond in Dover. All told there were 15 homebuilders on hand to share their products with about the 80 or so registered Realtors. Besides enjoying a catered lunch of pita wraps, veggies and so forth, this event gave our clients the direct ability to showcase their new home opportunities to Realtors, and to show the Realtors how easy it is to work with them. While I was invited to attend the event by one of our clients, I was able to talk with the traffic at most of our client's "booths" and help promote green building. I think it was the first time for the event but the word about new homes and green homes came through loud and clear.

JCM Environmental Pens

Since everyone loves our JCM promotional pens, we decided to have a contest to see who would submit a picture of one of our pens in a unique or fun location.

Throughout May, we are having the JCM employees to submit photos and in June we will start accepting photos from clients, vendors, friends and others.  We had to establish two categories since it is apparently fun to photoshop the pens into unique situations.

Visit www.jcmenv.com/pens.htm to see the entries so far.
